Enterprise 2.0 Needs Help

Great post by Jon Husband - TownSquare … Social Networking and Social Computing R&D on the wirearchy blog which if you were taking a grade school test might have something like wirearchy is to management as Work Literacy is to knowledge work.  In any case, he uses the recent announcement that Microsoft is testing a Facebook-like application called TownSquare, to discuss

… eventually organizations will have to realize that the tools and services that comprise what we call Enterprise 2.0 are tools and services that address in fundamental ways how people do knowledge work.

… most or all of the large vendors are now adding features and functionality (or acquiring them) such that the platforms being used to support the work of knowledge workers will have been substantially re-tooled  before another 5 years passes.  And that re-tooling will consist largely of social computing capabilities.

And then there’s the culture issue.

He asks the question:

Will Management 2.0 be needed before or after an organization addresses E2.0 ?

I would add that there’s a remarkable skills question that needs to be addressed before, during and after E2.0.  Without addressing the knowledge work attitudes and knowledge work skills, Cognitive Age Illiteracy will increase with employees Growing and Learning Slower Than Business Needs and the message will continue to be: Work Skills Gap Hinders Enterprise 2.0 Adoption.
