Riding the Mississippi Blues Trail: Part One
Mississippi claims to be the “birthplace of America’s music” in their promotional literature. It seems that when it comes to blues they have a good claim. However, New Orleans was the birthplace of jazz and Louisiana was home to much more, such as Louisiana's Huddie Ledbetter or "Leadbelly," as he became known, whose blues begin in 1912 before many of the Mississippi blues men were born and includes the classic "Midnight Special." So MORE >>

    open source workers
Openness enables knowledge-sharing, which fosters innovation through a diversity of ideas. Trust emerges in networks that are open and transparent. This is how open source software is developed. There are lessons to learn for open source work. Consider open source software versus software as a service. If you do not own the software, you do not really own your data, as they are usually useless without the software to use them effectively. The same can apply to labour. MORE >>

    Clarksdale Blues Festival: Day One
We attended two days of this year’s edition of Juke Joint Festival in Clarksldae, MS. The event describes itslef as “half blues festival, half small-town fair and all about the Delta."  "  During the daytime, there were a dozen small stages. At night, all of the surviving juke joints, blues clubs, are open with live music. There was a full pre-festival event on Friday. Big George Brock closed it out for us at a packed Red's Lounge.
