It impacts both work and time outside work hours, often blurring the distinction between the two. Of course many of these connections are for personal reasons, but often work is involved. In analogical reasoning, what helps is abstracting from the specifics to the more general (and folks are bad at generating good analogies, though okay at using them, according to my PhD and other research).
