    Here’s a rundown of the popular e-book formats that are available today and how to use them all. Other programs also provide the ability to create documents in PDF format such as Microsoft Office 2007, OpenOffice and many freeware tools. Amazon has released free Kindle readers for the PC , Mac , iPhone & BlackBerry , which will allow you to read Kindle books without a Kindle. Obviously, it’s much too early to tell how good this app will turn out to be.

    It’s not unknown for me to enter my name into a drawing for something, if I don’t mind what they’re doing with it. It’s almost unknown, however, for me to actually win, but that’s actually the case a month or so ago when I put a comment on a blog prior to the MacWorld show, and won a copy of Navigon turn-by-turn navigation software for my iPhone. In general, maps are a great cognitive augment, a tool we’ve developed to be very useful.

    I’ve been thinking a lot about how so many of our efforts to make things simpler for our students only seem to make it more difficult for them to find the best resources for their papers. Our library is going to be moving over to OCLC Web-Scale Management for our ILS (which I am really excited about!).     So many, in fact, that picking the right one can be tricky; few people have the time to try out more than a handful to find the right match. Google Calendar + Tasks because it’s free, easy to use, and syncs up everywhere (including on my iPhone). I use iCal for time management because it syncs with my iPhone and I set reminders to beep me at all hours. I have iCal running on Google Calendar with Teux Deux for task level stuff. Simple, easy to use.

We lost Steve Jobs, stupid Internet legislation reared its ugly head yet again in the form of SOPA, Internet IPOs came back in a big way (but didn’t perform as well as most would have liked), and the world woke up to the implications of programmatic buying and Big Data, in a Very Big Way.
